SHIRLEY MAXINE ANDERSON EAGLETON was born to Arthur and Isa (Newell) Anderson on July 27, 1931, on a homestead east of Macy, Nebraska. She passed away December 10, 2010, at Burgess Health Center in Onawa, Iowa, at the age of 79 years. Shirley lived on the farm with her parents and seven brothers and sisters. She received her education in Macy, graduating from Macy High School. On August 21, 1949, Shirley was married to James Eagleton in Decatur, Nebraska. They lived the first year of their marriage on a farm north of Decatur. They then bought a farm ½ mile south of Decatur and lived there until 2004. At that time, Shirley moved to a new house in Decatur. Due to ongoing health issues, Shirley resided at the Elmwood Care Centre in Onawa, Iowa, for the last year of her life. Shirley worked part-time for a few years at the school cafeteria at Decatur Public School and then worked part-time for a while at the Red Feather Drive Inn in Decatur. She was an active participant is Eastern Star, enjoyed playing cards and bowling with her friends and traveling with her husband, Jim, throughout her adult life. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jim; son, Gary; sisters, Viola and Bernice; brothers, Floyd and Lawrence. Survivors include her son, Dan of Decatur; daughter and son-in-law, Jaye and Rick Johnson of LaVista, NE; sisters, Leola Alexander of Rowland Heights, CA, Lois Stapleton of Allen, NE; brother and sister-in-law, Don & Shelia Anderson of Cerritos, CA; three grandsons, Christopher Eagleton of Bennington, NE, Brian Johnson of Newport, MN, Derek Johnson of LaVista, NE; two great grandchildren, Tanner and Ellie Eagleton of Bennington, NE.
FUNERAL SERVICE: Tuesday, December 14, 2010, 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Decatur. VISITATION: Monday, December 13, 2010, 1 - 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 - 7 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah. Visitation Tuesday will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. BURIAL: Hillcrest Cemetery, Decatur, Nebraska. MEMORIALS: Sears Wellness Center, Decatur.
