HAZEL CORDELIA (GRAY) DEVASURE was born July 9, 1916, on a farm near Tekamah, Nebraska, to Charles Ransom and Elizabeth Ellen (Huston) Gray. She passed away, Sunday, January 16, 2011, at the Golden Living Center in Tekamah at the age of 94 years.

Hazel was a life-long resident of the Tekamah area. She attended Tekamah Schools, graduating from Tekamah High School in 1934.

On January 8, 1936, Hazel married her high school sweetheart, Warren DeVasure, in Wichita, Kansas. They celebrated their 75th Anniversary on January 8, 2011.

Hazel was active in her community. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Tekamah for 85 years, teaching Sunday school and Bible school. She was also a 4-H club leader. Hazel was a 52 –year member of the Tekamah Chapter No. 131, OES.

She enjoyed gardening, farming, and reading. She also had a special bond with pets. Hazel loved her family and especially enjoyed when her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren could all get together.  

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Warren; daughters, Shirley DeVasure of Omaha, Nebraska and Judy (John) Husk of Cincinnati, Ohio; two grandchildren, Sara Husk of Bethany, Oklahoma and Jason (Anna) Husk of Concord, California; two great-grandchildren, Rachel and Rebecca Husk also of Concord and a host of friends.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, January 22, 2011, 10:30 a.m., at the United Methodist Church in Tekamah.

VISITATION: Friday, January 21, 2011, 1 - 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 - 8 and a 7:00 p.m. Eastern Star Service all at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah. Visitation Saturday will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.

BURIAL: Tekamah Cemetery

MEMORIALS: In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be directed to the Burt County Museum, Tekamah United Methodist Church and the Tekamah Library.
