ALICE NADINE BURNS CROMER was born July 21, 1918, at home in Sarcoxie, Missouri, to Vincel Herbert and Nola Alice (Herron) George. She passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at the Memorial Community Hospital in Blair, Nebraska, at the age of 91 years. On December 16, 1933, Nadine married James R. Burns in Joplin, Missouri. In 1938, she received a brother, Freddie Lee Ringer, following the death of their mother. She raised Freddie as a son and brother to her five children: Nola Nadine, October 3, 1940, Ida Louise, August 31, 1945, James R. Burns March 11, 1951, Luella Sue, January 1, 1955, and Deborah Ann December 25, 1956. James passed away November 1965, one month before their 32nd anniversary. Nadine went to school to study business and had several jobs as a bookkeeper. On May 4, 1973, Nadine married Robert F. Cromer. They lived several years in Oakland, Nebraska. In 1980, Nadine retired at age 62 from Region IV Services. Robert passed away in February of 1985. Nadine was a member of the Oakland VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed traveling, crossword puzzles, cross-stitching, and reading mysteries. She also enjoyed playing cards with her friends, playing bingo, and going to the casinos. She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands, James Burns and Robert Cromer; grandson, Brian Tobin in August 1985; and an infant brother. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Nola and Russ Solberg of Hawarden, Iowa, Ida and Rollie Metz of Tekamah, Sue Lambert, Debbie and Mike Scott of Blair, Nebraska; sons and daughters-in-law, Jim and Diane Burns of Tekamah, Fred and Rosemary Ringer of Bolivar, Missouri; stepsons, Mike Cromer of California, Paul Cromer of Oakland, Nebraska, Guy Cromer of South Dakota; 19 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, January 16, 2010, 2:00 p.m., at the First Baptist Church in Tekamah. VISITATION: Friday, 5 - 8 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah. Visitation Saturday will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. BURIAL: Herman Cemetery, Herman, Nebraska. MEMORIALS: Donor's Choice
