LaNelle J. Clough

1933 ~ 2011

 

LANELLE JANET CLOUGH, 77 years, was born April 25, 1933, in Uehling, Nebraska, to Anthony and Bernice (Erickson) Clough. Following a long illness, she passed away peacefully with her brothers at her side Saturday, January 29, 2011, at Hillcrest Country Estates in Papillion, Nebraska. She was a long-time resident of Riverside Lakes in Waterloo, Nebraska.

Her family brought great joy to her life. She is survived by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Dr. Roger and Margaret (Merchant) Clough of Omaha, Nebraska and Dr. David and Donna (Ruwe) Clough of Lake Bluff, Illinois. She is also survived by six nephews and nieces, Marc (Pam) Clough, Michael (Arlene) Clough, Martin (Amy) Clough, Christina Clough, John (Aubrey) Clough and Anne (Jake) Bodin; twelve grandnieces and  grandnephews, Lindi, Robert, Katy, Charlie, Maddie, Sofie, Bo, Madison, Chloe, Lydia, Stella, Violet; and great grandnephew, Thomas. Other survivors include her cousins, Carolee (Realph) Laughren, Jim and Pam Realph and Sharon (Olson) Landholm. LaNelle was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents and several loving aunts and uncles.

LaNelle graduated from Uehling High School in 1950, attended Wayne State College and graduated from Midland College in 1956. She earned her master’s degree plus many hours toward her doctorate from the University of Nebraska Lincoln.

Family, her students and her teacher colleagues were at the center of her life. LaNelle’s career in education included teaching in Dodge County District 17  at Swaburg and teaching music in Tekamah, North Bend, and many years in Omaha Public Schools. While in Omaha, she taught at McMillan Jr. High, Nathan Hale Jr. High, Benson High School, Morton Jr. High and Marrs Elementary and Jr. High. As a music teacher, LaNelle touched the lives of thousands of students and helped them learn to love music. Along with teaching, she directed several church choirs in the Omaha area, most recently at Peace Presbyterian in Waterloo. She gave private piano and voice lessons to many aspiring young musicians. LaNelle was a talented performer, composer of music and member of the Sweet Adelines.

A close second to music in LaNelle’s life was her love of sports. She enjoyed sports of all kinds but her special love was the Nebraska Cornhuskers. LaNelle was a long-time football season ticket holder, rarely missing a game. She especially loved cheering on the Big Red with her “Best Buddy”, Preston Ricker of Blair. LaNelle enjoyed watching her nephews and nieces in all of their many sports and activities. A special talent was teaching her nieces how to shop!

LaNelle was a person of great faith and her family knows she is in a special place in heaven.

PRAYER SERVICE: Friday, February 4, 2011, 5:00 p.m. at St. Luke United Methodist Churh, 11810 Burke St. in Omaha. Visitation with the family receiving friends will be held at the church from 4 - 5 p.m.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, February 5, 2011, 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church/UCC in Uehling, Nebraska. Visitation Saturday will be held at the church one hour prior to the service.

BURIAL: Baptist Cemetery at rural Uehling, Nebraska.

MEMORIALS: The family will direct Memorial Gifts.
