ARTHUR W. CHRIST “SONNY” of Lyons, Nebraska, was born May 16, 1918, to Otto and Hattie Christ on a farm near Herman, Nebraska. He passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at Oakland Heights Nursing Home in Oakland, Nebraska, at the age of 90 years.

Sonny attended Summers School in Washington County until his family moved to rural Decatur in 1931. The hard times of the Depression caused Sonny to quit school and work on the farm to help support his parents, brothers and sisters.

In 1943 he was able to get his own farm and continued tilling the land until his retirement in 1994. He then moved to his home in Lyons until his health forced him to move to Oakland Heights in December of 2007.

Sonny was a great gardener and would can and give away much of his produce. He also enjoyed going to farm and machinery auctions whenever he could.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Henry and sister, Mildred Biggio.

He is survived by six brothers: Emil of Norfolk, Nebraska, Albert of Lyons, Nebraska, Ernest of Fremont, Nebraska, Clarence of Omaha, Nebraska, Jerry and Gene both of Fremont; two sisters: Ramona Bales of West Point, Nebraska, Clarabelle Hankins of Homer, Nebraska; many nephews and nieces.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Thursday, May 22, 2008, 10:30 a.m. at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Lyons, Nebraska.

VISITATION: Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church

BURIAL: Lyons Cemetery, Lyons, Nebraska
