Elaine M. Chambliess 1924 ~ 2008 |
|
ELAINE MARGARET CHAMBLIESS was born May 30, 1924, at the family farmstead south of Uehling, Nebraska to Arthur and Caroline (Moseman) Bowman. She passed away Thursday, November 6, 2008, at Oakland Heights Nursing Home in Oakland, Nebraska following a lingering illness at the age of 84 years. Elaine was baptized and confirmed at Elim Lutheran Church in Swaburg. She grew up on the family farm along with brothers, Melvin and Floyd. She loved living on the farm, where she enjoyed her horse, Bell, and her playhouse out in the trees. She loved to go fishing and also helping her mother cook and bake. Elaine attended Uehling Public School District No. 49 and graduated from Uehling High School in 1940. Elaine’s brother, Melvin, introduced her to Lee Roy Chambliess, who served with him in the Army. When they met, she knew right away he was the one. They were married on April 15, 1944, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They returned to Uehling, where they bought a home. Elaine was so proud of her home and took great pleasure in being a home maker both inside and out. She loved her garden, flower beds, lilac and maple trees, bird baths and wind chimes. Her home was well organized and she loved cooking, baking, canning in the fall, and making fresh fruit cocktail with pears and peaches. She also loved their many dogs and cats. Her greatest pleasure was when she had her children: son, Darryle, was born November 12, 1946 and daughter, Joyce, on November 19, 1952. Elaine was the best mother anyone could ask for. She enjoyed her life to the fullest. Elaine and Lee Roy celebrated nearly 60 years of marriage. He passed away on November 4, 2003. In her last months, Elaine would talk about Lee Roy, wanting to go home to be with him, to dance with her husband again, to hold him close and kiss him. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lee Roy; granddaughter, Carrie Marie Johnson; brothers: Melvin and Floyd Bowman. Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law: Darryle and Val Chambliess of Bend, Oregon; daughter and son-in-law: Joyce and Clyde Johnson of Oakland, Nebraska; four grandchildren: Darren Chambliess, his wife, Nicole and family of West Point, Nebraska, Hannah Johnson, Amy Hurst, her husband, Steve and family all of Fremont, Nebraska, Jason Johnson, his fiancé, Bonnie Schultz and family of Oakland; nine great grandchildren and two adopted grandchildren.
