Dwain E. Castor

1937 ~ 2009

DWAIN EDWIN CASTOR was born February 4, 1937, at Decatur, Nebraska to Wilbert and Ruth (Christopher) Castor. He passed away March 1, 2009, at his home in Decatur at the age of 72 years.
     
Dwain graduated from Diller High School in 1956 and attended Fairbury Jr. College.  He served in the U. S. Army for twenty years.  While in the Army, he attended the Administrative Course, graduating as Administrative Supervisor. He completed the 7th U.S. Army Non Commission Officer Course, best in all the services and also participated in the absentee college course program from the University of Maryland.  He served two tours of duty in Germany and one tour in Korea – 1st Sgt., six months stationed in Greenland and one tour of duty in RVN (Vietnam). He visited Japan, Hawaii, Sidney, Australia, Alaska, Guam, Canal Zone, France, England and (Berlin) East Germany.  Dwain also served in the Department of Defense in Washington, D.C.  He was the recipient of the Bronze Star Medal, U. S. Army Commendation Medal and other. He retired from the Army in 1978 and returned to Nebraska.
     
On May 14, 1986, Dwain and Laura (Teeters) Smith were united in marriage at Pender, Nebraska. They had one daughter, Michelle Lee in addition to Laura’s son, Keith.
     
In May 2000, they started breeding and raising silver fox for their fur.  In November 2003, after years of harvesting wild fur, they successfully established Castor Fur, a small scale fur company to buy and process wild fur also sold at the North American Fur Auction (International Auction).
     
Dwain enjoyed trapping, fishing, woodworking and mineralogy.
     
He was preceded in death by his parents; son: Keith Allen Smith in 1992; brothers: Kenny, Fred and Melbourne; sisters: Helen and Marilyn; father-in-law: Clarence Teeters and brother-in-law: Darrell Teeters.
      
Survivors include his wife: Laura; daughter: Michelle Castor; two granddaughters: Morgan and Trenody Compton all of Decatur; brothers: Charles and Gene Castor both of Decatur, Joe Castor of Watchula, FL, Leslie Castor of Onawa, Iowa; sisters; Connie Newton, of Watchula, FL, Louella Hoggart of Ocean  Springs, MS and Harriet Peterson of Bellevue, NE; mother-in-law: Charlotte Teeters of Decatur; many nieces and nephews.
