WALTER EDWARD CASE, 97 years, of Lyons, Nebraska, passed away Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at Arbor Manor in Fremont, Nebraska. Eddie was born October 12, 1912, to Henry Thurman and Delpha Aletha (Ingram) Case at Edgar Springs, Missouri. The Case family moved from Missouri to Herman, Nebraska, where Eddie attended grade school until the early death of his father when he quit school to work to help take care of his family of six. Eddie could do any job that was put in front of him. He worked 28 years at a service station in Herman and drove truck doing local hauling. Eddie served almost three years in the Army during WW II. Part of his time was spent overseas. He returned to Herman following his discharge. In 1963, Eddie married Ruby G. Moran of rural Lyons, Nebraska. He moved to the Cuming county farm and was employed at Johnson Hardware in Lyons for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1999. He was a very good appliance repairman and spent many after work hours going to friends and neighbors homes to fix TVs or anything else that might need his expertise. Eddie was an active member of the Memorial United Methodist Church of Lyons. Eddie led a full life, met and enjoyed many people and had lots of stories to tell. Everything from picking fruit in California, to vacation trips with his son, Richard and Peggy. The last trip was to Florida in January 2005 to see his brother, Howard and Winnie. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby; two brothers, Ray and Alfus Case and sister, Zelma Dorn. Survivors include his stepdaughters, Nancy (Mark) Eckert of Arlington, Nebraska, Jerrel Lea Branch of Sioux City, Iowa; son, Richard L. (Peggy) Case of Hawarden, Iowa; sister, Alma Bilderback of Fort Calhoun, Nebraska; brother, Howard (Winnie) Case of Shalimar, Florida; two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. VISITATION: Thursday, December 31, 2009, 9 a.m. - 6 p.m. with a 1:30 p.m. PRAYER SERVICE at Pelan Funeral Home in Lyons. BURIAL: Lyons Cemetery at a later date MEMORIALS: Lyons Senior Center
