Loy Kent Carlson

1936 ~ 2011

LOY KENT CARLSON was born May 7, 1936, at the Oakland Hospital in Oakland, Nebraska, to Vergil and Opal (Tranmer) Carlson.  He passed away Friday, February 25, 2011, at Oakland Mercy Hospital in Oakland after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease, at the age of 74 years.

Loy grew up in rural Bertha and graduated from Lyons High School in 1953. He served in the US Navy from June 1956 to June 1958.

Loy was a cattle buyer in the northeast Nebraska area for most of his career.

He was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lyons, where he had served as a trustee. He was a 4-H leader of Lyons Leading Livestock for many years. He participated with his daughters in 4-H at local fairs including, Burt County, Fremont, Nebraska State Fair and Aksarben.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his three daughters and six grandchildren, Kelly Aylward of Corona Del Mar, California and her sons, Gavin (Kristen) and Connor Aylward, Kim Southwell (Brian) of Celina, Texas and their daughters, Savanna, Sophie and Sadie Southwell, Karlin Hughes (Bill) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and their daughter, Lily Lincoln; sister and brother-in-law, Kay (Lee) Appleby of rural Decatur, Nebraska.

FUNERAL MASS: Saturday, February   26, 2011, 2:00 p.m., at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lyons, Nebraska.

BURIAL: Lyons Cemetery with Military Honors by Robert Klase VFW Post No. 7998 and Harvey Lenig American Legion Post No. 83.

VISITATION: Saturday at the church one hour prior to the service.
