Grover E. Carlson

1922 ~ 2011

GROVER E. CARLSON was born July 14, 1922, in West Point, Nebraska, to Oscar E. and Lillie M. (Bergbom) Carlson.  He passed away Thursday, December 22, 2011, at the Oakland Mercy Hospital in Oakland, Nebraska, at the age of 89 years.

At the age of five his family moved to a farm near Oakland.  He attended Mount Olive District #60 and Craig High School. 

He worked at the Martin bomber plant in Omaha, and in California.  After the service he returned to Oakland to farm. 

Grover married Dena Jean Kjeldgaard on January 1, 1948 in Tekamah, Nebraska at the Methodist Church.  To this union five children were born Beverly, Larry, Mark, Charles and Paul.

Grover was a lifelong farmer.  He took great pride in farming and raised livestock for many years.

Grover was a member of the Craig American Legion Post 127, served on the boards of District #60 and Craig and Oakland Co-op.  In later years Grover enjoyed having coffee with other farmers at the Craig Co-op.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Larry; brother, William (Bill) and infant grandson, Emanuel.

Survivors include his wife, Dena of Oakland; daughter, Beverly (Dan) Lux of Fremont, NE; three sons, Mark (Laurie), Charles (Ronda) both of Oakland, and Paul of Allen, NE; 12 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sister, Charlotte Narak of Fremont; sister-in-law, Opal Carlson of Riverton, WY.

 

FUNERAL SERVICE:  Tuesday, December 27, 2011, 10:30 a.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland.

VISITATION: Monday, December 26, 4 – 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 – 8 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation will also be held Tuesday at the church one hour prior to the service.

BURIAL WITH MILITARY HONORS: Oakland Cemetery with Military Honors by American Legion Post No. 127.
