Jack R. Bryant

1926 ~ 2009

JACK RADCLIFFE BRYANT was born October 5, 1926 in Tekamah, Nebraska to Gordon and Ann (Radcliffe) Bryant. He passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at the Golden Living Center in Tekamah, Nebraska at the age of 82 years.

Jack was raised in Tekamah, attended Tekamah Public Schools graduating in 1944. He started college at the University of Nebraska and was interrupted by his service in the Merchant Marines from 1945-46. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Nebraska in 1950 and later received his master’s degree from the University of Colorado in 1958. He taught for a semester at North Bend Schools and then enlisted and served in the U. S. Air Force from 1951- 1953. He resumed his teaching and coaching career in 1954 in the Hershey Public Schools. Jack had a successful teaching career of over 30 years and  coaching career of over 25 years with stops in Neligh, Nebraska, Reinbeck, Iowa, Corning, Iowa, Storm Lake, Iowa and Fremont, Nebraska.

Jack was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Lions Club, Tekamah Masonic Lodge No. 31, Northridge Golf Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles, American Legion Lafrenz Post No. 15, lifetime member of the National Education Association, Nebraska State Athletic Association, Nebraska Coaches Association and Burt County Museum.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Gordon Jr. and sister, Suzanne.

Survivors include his nephews and nieces: Gordon F. III (Leslye) Bryant, Michael (Leah) Bryant all of Tekamah, Marty (Jeanne) Going of Omaha, Nebraska; great nephews and nieces: Drs. Marcus and Elizabeth Snow, Scott and Sara Going all of Omaha, Craig and Crystal Mencke of Lincoln, Jessica, Chip, Jacob and Trevor Bryant all of Tekamah; great-great nephew: Nolan Going of Omaha.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Friday, May 1, 2009, 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah.

BURIAL: Tekamah Cemetery with Military Honors by the American Legion LaFrenz Post No. 15 and VFW Bataan Post No. 3304.

VISITATION: Thursday 1 - 8 p.m. family receiving friends from 6 - 8 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. Masonic Service at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah.

MEMORIALS: Tekamah Rescue Squad, Burt County Museum, First Presbyterian Church
