Mary L. Bergquist

1937 ~ 2009

 

MARY LOUISE ENGDAHL BERGQUST was born May 30, 1937, in Oakland, Nebraska, to Weldon and Nellie (Anderson) Engdahl. She passed away Tuesday, August 11, 2009, at the Hooper Care Center in Hooper, Nebraska.

Mary was baptized at Elim Lutheran Church, (Swaburg) rural Hooper. She was confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Oakland.

Mary grew up on a farm in rural Oakland. She attended school at Districts 13 and 64 and  graduated from Oakland High School in 1955. Mary attended Luther Junior College in Wahoo, Nebraska and graduated from the Immanuel School of Nursing in Omaha, Nebraska in 1959.

On March 23, 1974, Mary married Keith Bergquist at First Lutheran Church in Oakland. They lived on the family farm. She last worked as an RN at the Oakland Memorial Hospital.

Mary was a member of the Elim Lutheran Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher and member of the Women of the ELCA. She was a member of the Wo-He-Lo, Husker Honeys and Golden Hour community clubs and the Dodge County Livestock Feeders Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Vernelle Kellogg and Ilene Lundquist; brother, Carrol Engdahl; brothers-in-law, Bob Lindstrom and Paul Kellogg; father- and mother-in-law, Harold and Margaret Bergquist.
Survivors include her husband, Keith of rural Hooper; daughter, Karin of Omaha; sisters-in-law, Roma Engdahl of Elkhorn, Nebraska, Marlene Lindstrom of Oakland; brother-in-law, Charles Lundquist of Youngstown, Ohio; nieces and nephews.

FUNERAL SERVICE: Saturday, August 15, 2009, 10:30 a.m. at the Elim Lutheran Church (Swaburg), rural Hooper, Nebraska.

BURIAL: Swaburg Cemetery, rural Hooper, Nebraska

VISITATION: Friday 1 - 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 5 - 8 p.m. and a 7 p.m. Prayer Service at Pelan Funeral Home Oakland. Visitation will also be held Saturday at the church one hour prior to the service.

MEMORIALS: Elim Lutheran Church, Uehling Rescue Squad.
