TODD RYAN BENNER, age 61, of Lincoln, Nebraska, passed away February 16, 2009, at his home in Lincoln after a year-long battle with colorectal cancer. Known to many friends as Ryan, he was an avid Nebraska Husker athletics fan, enjoyed baseball and caring for his beloved cocker spaniel, Spice. Todd was born September 13, 1947, in Oakland, Nebraska, to Charles and Florence (Brandenburg) Benner. He grew up in Scribner, Nebraska, where he graduated from high school in 1965. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Kearney State College. Todd taught high school English in Central City, Lexington St. Ann’s, Big Springs, Wauneta, Crawford and Red Club, Nebraska, as well as Alma, Kansas and Rialto, California. He moved to Lincoln in 1995, doing substitute teaching at several area high schools, as well as working with the Lincoln City Recreational softball program during the summer months. He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew. Survivors include his sisters: Gail (Gary) Elsasser of Oakland, Nebraska, Mary (Doug) Ingram of Cozad, Nebraska; brothers: John (Kathy) Benner of Maple Grove, Minnesota and Scot Benner of Peoria, Arizona; three nieces and seven nephews; and four grand-nieces. A family memorial service was held Saturday, February 21, 2009, at the Congregation Church/UCC in Scribner. Burial was in the Scribner Cemetery. Memoriasl may be made to the Congregational Church/UCC in Scribner or donor’s choice.
