LAYNE CURTIS BAKER was born August 12, 1953, at North Platte, Nebraska, to Keith and Marylin (Nord) Baker. He passed away Monday, May 19, 2008, at BryanLGH  Medical Center  in Lincoln, Nebraska, at the age of 54 years.

Layne graduated from Oakland-Craig High School in 1971 and attended Kearney State College. He returned to Oakland, where he farmed.

Layne married Janet Hutsell. They had four sons: Chad, Clint, Kent and Ross.

On January 9, 1998, Layne and Jeri (Johnson) Ahrens were married at the United Methodist Church in Oakland.
      Layne was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland.

He was preceded in death by his father, Keith in 1985 and son, Ross in 2002.

Survivors  include  his  wife: Jeri  of  Oakland; sons  and  daughters-in-law:  Clint and Liza of Waverly, Nebraska, Chad and Kent, both of Lincoln, Christopher  and Kristen Ahrens of Omaha,  Nebraska; Brent and Brooke Ahrens of Oakland; daughter: Andrea Ahrens of  Oakland and  her  fiancé, Joshua  Clark  of  Norfolk, Nebraska; mother: Marylin Baker of Oakland; brother and sister-in-law: Gregg and Nancy Baker of Columbus, Nebraska; sister and brother-in-law: Marcia and David Carper of Lincoln; three grandchildren:  Blake Baker, Topher Ahrens and Brennan Ahrens; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

FUNERAL SERVICE:  Wednesday, May 21, 2008, 10:30 a.m. at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Oakland.

VISITATION: Tuesday, May 20, 2008, 1 – 8 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 6 – 8 p.m. at Pelan Funeral Home in Oakland. Visitation will also be held Wednesday at the church one hour prior to the service.

INTERMENT: Oakland Cemetery
