KAY LOUISE BAKER was born June 1, 1934, in Tekamah, Nebraska, to Lester P. and Vera P. (Rohde) Reinert. She passed away Saturday, April 12, 2008, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, following a short battle with cancer. Kay was 73 years of age. Kay attended grade school in Plattsmouth, Nebraska and graduated from Omaha Central High School in June 1952. During high school she worked as a candy striper at the Methodist Hospital in Omaha. Following her graduation, she worked for Mutual of Omaha. Kay was introduced to Earl I. Baker by a friend as a blind date. Earl and Kay were married November 21, 1954, at the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah. They lived on the Baker family farm northeast of Tekamah raising pigs and various crops for 54 years. Kay also was employed by the Burt County Extension Office in Tekamah for twenty-five years. She loved working with all of the people across Burt County and especially all of the 4-H kids and leaders. Kay was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah. She spent countless hours serving her church and community. Kay was a very caring and giving person. She loved helping people during times of need. She was always cooking something in her kitchen to share with others. Kay and Earl also traveled extensively during their retirement. She was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents; infant sister, Sally Ruth; sister-in-law: Rosa Hall; cousin, Jane Reinert. Survivors include her loving husband: Earl of Tekamah; sons and daughters-in-law: David of Enumclaw, Washington, Gregory and Joan, Philip and Marylinn all of Pierre, South Dakota; four grandchildren: Ashleigh and Joshua Baker, Jessalinn and Wylin Baker all of Pierre. FUNERAL SERVICE: Wednesday, April 16, 2008, 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Tekamah. BURIAL: Tekamah Cemetery VISITATION: Tuesday, April 15, 2008, 1 – 8 p.m., family receiving friends from 5 – 7 p.m. with a 6 p.m. Prayer Service all at Pelan Funeral Home in Tekamah.
